元宵节吃的元宵 英文怎么说？带馅的都叫当普林？

马上就要到元宵节了，正月十五闹花灯的概念，在新西兰也是越来越流行。从这周五开始到下周一，奥克兰的Domain公园举行的元宵灯会，已经是奥克兰一年一度固定节目了，成千上万的人会来到这里，分享中国新年的快乐，品位多元文化。

今天我们就要来学一学，跟元宵节有关的英语。在向新西兰朋友们介绍我们的传统节日时，大家一定可以自信满满。

先来看几个单词：

元宵节： Lantern Festival 

Lantern是灯的意思，Lantern Festival直译过来，就是灯节的意思。

正月：The First Month of Lunar New Year

灯谜：Lantern Riddles

猜灯谜：Guessing Lantern Riddles

十二生肖：Chinese Zodiac Signs，或者Symbolic Animals

鼠（子） - Rat

牛（丑） - Ox

虎（寅） - Tiger

兔（卯） - Rabbit

龙（辰） - Dragon

蛇（巳） - Snake

马（午） - Horse

羊（未） - Goat

猴（申） - Monkey

鸡（酉） - Rooster

狗（戌） - Dog

猪（亥） - Pig

本命年，是一个比较难解释概念，简单一点，可以说成是Year of Fate，或者说 One’s Zodiac Year。

在元宵节，中国人有吃元宵汤圆的习俗。很多西方人习惯把所有带馅往水里煮的面食都统统称为Dumpling，所以有时候也会看到把元宵汤圆叫做“Rice Dumpling”或者“Lantern Festival Dumpling”元宵汤圆。当然，很多洋人会问你这是什么做的，为啥是粘粘的，你可以进一步解释它们是Glutinous Rice Ball或者Sweet Rice Ball。

对话：

A：这两天奥克兰有元宵灯会。

The Auckland Lantern Festival is coming!

B：吔！我每年都好期待这个活动呀！它是我一年中最爱的日子。

Hurray! I am quite looking forward to it. ‘Cause It’s my favorite time of year! 

A：记得我小时候，我爸爸给我做灯笼。

Oh yeah? I remember when I was young, my father made lanterns for me. 

B：那一定很有趣。

That must be fun!

A：是啊，到了元宵节，小朋友们可开心了，拿着各自的灯笼去公园里展示。

You bet! Kids are so excited, they can’t wait to show off their lanterns in the park. 

B：都有什么样的灯笼？

What kind of lanterns?

A：比较常见的是兔子灯笼，球形灯笼，还有杨桃灯笼。

Common ones are rabbit lanterns, ball-shaped lanterns and Star Fruit shaped lanterns.

A：以前灯笼是点蜡烛的，现在都是LED灯的了，花样也更多了。

In the old days lanterns were lit by candles. Now there are LED lit lanterns, with more fancy styles.

B：元宵节除了看花灯，还有什么传统？

Is there any other tradition besides lanterns during this festival?

A：当然。比如猜灯谜啊。谜语写在灯笼上，或者写在纸上然后贴在灯笼上。

Of course. Like Lantern Riddles, there are riddles written on lanterns or on slips of paper attached to lanterns. 

B：猜对了有奖品吗？

Do I get a treat if I guess right?

A：是啊，灯谜的主办者会给你一个新年小礼物。

Yeah, usually you will be given a small New Year gift.

B：元宵灯会的美食是让我兴奋的另一个点。

Lantern Festival’s food is another thing I’m excited about.

A: 传统习俗是吃元宵汤圆的。

Traditionally you eat Sweet Rice Balls during Lantern Festival.

B：我在多美路餐馆吃到过豆沙汤圆，很好吃。

I had rice balls with red bean paste filling in a Dominion Rd restaurant once. They are delish！

A:  嗯，还有黑芝麻馅儿的，特别香。

There are black sesame fillings too, so yummy!

B：猪年是我的本命年，我应该做点啥？

Is there any more tradition I should follow ? The Year of Pig is my Zodiac year by the way.

A：是吗？那你记得要穿点红的，据说可以辟邪。

Oh you don’t say! Please do wear something red, it brings you good luck and keeps away evil spirits.
